Who Is GWE?
Generational Wealth Educators (GWE) is a non-profit entity based in Charlotte, NC. GWE works by helping the community and lower-income families to generate wealth, pass legacies down to their children, and become financially independent. The organization aims to help create a life where money problems do not exist, and every parent has the opportunity to give their child the life they deserve.
“I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that financial literacy, economic empowerment, and wealth-building are going to be the last leg of the civil rights movement. Because one step toward financial literacy takes you two steps toward personal empowerment.” -Russell Simmons.
In the 1920s, real estate professionals restricted all minorities from creating wealth for their families and future generations by using redlining, a discriminatory practice that puts services (financial and otherwise) out of reach for residents of specific areas based on race or ethnicity.
Redlining is the systematic denial of mortgages, insurance, loans, and other financial services based on location (and that area’s default history) rather than on an individual’s qualifications and creditworthiness. Notably, the policy of redlining is felt the most by residents of minority neighborhoods. Meanwhile, white families created financial freedom for their children and generations to come. This wealth still exists today and is still used by their families.
Despite the delay, we are sure that our programs will help individuals accomplish their financial literacy and independence goals. GWE has partners that help build our communities and clients in every way. Our partners help improve GWE members’ quality of life by expanding their knowledge and preparing them for their business and personal development. By using mental health awareness, financial literacy courses, personal development courses, real estate, and stock investing, GWE is determined to change the lives of minorities and people of color.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela.
Knowledge is the most potent weapon; we chose education to help our communities. We offer more than seven programs that build our members as professionals and individuals. Some of the classes we offer are First Time Home Buyer, Financial and Mental Wellness, and Investing programs. We believe offering these classes will change the racial and ethnic wealth disparity.
Now we want you to be part of this change. By donating funds, resources, or volunteering your time or services to our members and helping build a community, GWE will be able to shift the stigma of owning your first home and create generational wealth for families. If you need services, get in touch with us for free therapy sessions or any programs we offer at WWW.GWEducators.com.
